LG Election Petition Tribunal commences sitting

The zone B Local Government Election Petition Tribunal has commenced sitting in Minna High Court Complex, with an appeal to the Counsels to avoid unnecessary arguments and or technicalities as much as possible to ensure that the tribunal meets up with the time frame.

The chairperson of the 3-man led panel, Hajiya Aishatu Bawa Wodu made the appeal at the inaugural sitting of the tribunal at the Chief Magistrate Court 5, High Court Complex, Minna, Tuesday.

She requested counsels of the petioners to cooperate with the tribunal to see to the speedy dispensation of justice in view of the time frame given to the tribunal to dispense various petitions.

She urged the counsels to avoid unnecessary technicalities that will delay the process of the tribunal adding that the tribunal is not a conventional court where all applications will be entertained. She then assured of the tribunal’s support towards making the proceedings less cumbersome

Speaking earlier, the Counsel to the petioners, Barrister Mohammed Kudu Ndayako, told the tribunal members that they are aware of the time frame of the tribunal, assuring that they will do all within the ambits of the law to meet the stipulated time given to argue their petitions.

Also speaking, another counsel to the petitioners, Barrister Mohammed Abubakar El-Suru pledged to extend his hands of cooperation to the tribunal to meet up the time frame, adding that the counsels appearing at the tribunal were all familiar with the proceeding of election tribunal noting that they were given a period in which they will argue their petitions within the ambits of the electoral act.
