NIGER STATE GOVERNOR PROPOSES CREATION OF RANGERS FORCE TO PROTECT FOREST RESERVES
Governor Umaru Bago of Niger has advocated the creation of a Rangers Force dedicated to managing and protecting forest reserves and conservation areas in Nigeria.
Governor Bago stated this when he addressed participants as a panellist in the Nigeria Police side event at the Nigeria Pavilion at the ongoing United Nations Climate Summit in the United Arab Emirates.
The Governor who commended the Nigeria Police for their commitment to green initiatives used the forum to explore opportunities for more green initiatives and partnerships with organizations, Ministries, Departments, and Agencies as stakeholders in that regard.
The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun at the event rolled out the “Police Go Green” initiative as part of the Police Force’s contribution to Nigeria’s global commitment to climate change.
The IGP said the core mission of the NPGI aligns with global efforts for a more environmentally friendly society while reiterating the crucial role law enforcement plays in ensuring a safer and more sustainable future.
The IGP in his address further called for collective support to address climate challenges.
