FOOD CRISIS: VICE PRESIDENT SHETIMA INAUGURATES FARMER GOVERNOR UMARU BAGO OF NIGER STATE AND OTHERS INTO THE PRESIDENTIAL FOOD SYSTEM COORDINATING UNIT

Niger State Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago has been inaugurated as one of the members of the Presidential Food System Coordinating Unit by the Vice President Kasim Shettima.

The farmer Governor Bago joined other critical stakeholders in the Presidential Unit which was created to address the soaring prices of commodities and food crisis in the Country.

Vice President Kasim Shettima, after inaugurating the Unit, acknowledged that the Nation is facing a rare food security crisis which demands urgent attention from all critical stakeholders.

Farmer Governor Umaru Bago used the opportunity to explain the Agricultural policies being implemented in Niger State geared towards booting food production and to ensure food security.

He also highlighted the huge investment his administration has made in procuring agricultural equipment and inputs for merchanisation and irrigation systems.

The farmer Governor solicited support from the Federal government, World Bank and other development partners for the success of all his agricultural initiatives, which he said would address food insecurity.

Other Governors, who are also part of the Presidential Unit, took turns to also explain their plans to increase food production in their various States to attain self-sufficiency.
