UPDATE: National Universities Commission (NUC) conducted a resource verification visit to the Niger State University of Education in Minna
Update on the newly approved Niger State University of Education.
The National Universities Commission (NUC) recently conducted a resource verification visit to the Niger State University of Education in Minna. This visit is a step in the revalidation process of the university’s approval, which took place on December 14-15, 2023.
The visit follows the historic revalidation of the university’s earlier approval on September 28, 2023, and the establishment of an Implementation Committee. The committee, under the directives of the Governor, with Professor Kuta Yahya as the chairman, has been lauded for its efforts in ensuring the readiness of the university for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The NUC, along with professors from various Nigerian institutions, evaluated the university’s preparedness. This exercise was crucial to assessing physical and human resources for the initial four faculties and their forty-one undergraduate programs.
Professor Kuta, Chairman of the Implementation Committee, confirmed the readiness to launch a new university, backed by substantial support from the State Governor, Hon. Mohammed Umaru Bago. The Governor has committed approximately N20 billion for the establishment of the university. Prof. Yahaya emphasized that the current structures and funding pave the way for future expansion, a critical aspect for developing university systems.
The NUC team appreciated the progress made by the state in developing the university’s infrastructure and facilities.
The visiting team was also impressed and expressed admiration at the size and quality of the university’s structures, praising the Governor’s vision for revitalizing the university’s establishment.
