FARMER GOVERNOR UMARU BAGO CALLS FOR RE- EVALUATION OF PARENTS AND TEACHERS DUTIES TOWARDS EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF CHILDREN

Niger State Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago has advocated a review of the responsibilities of parents and teachers towards the educational and attitudinal development of children.

Farmer Governor Umaru Bago stated this at the 2024 Children’s Day celebration, organised by the State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, held at the Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi Conference Centre Minna.

The Farmer Governor, who was represented by his Wife, Hajiya Fatima Umaru Bago, said parents are under the obligation to nurture their children’s intellectual capacities while teachers, on the other hand, are expected to inspire and guide their pupils towards realising those capabilities.

He used the medium to reiterate his administration’s commitment to the well-being and development of children and advocated the provision of necessary resources and infrastructure for skills acquisition and entrepreneurship.

The farmer Governor noted that the theme of this year’s children’s day celebration, which is, “Empowering Our Future Leaders Through Skills Acquisition,” is a clarion call for corresponding action as it underscores the importance of equipping children with the necessary skills to thrive in the digital world.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Hadiza Asabe Muhammad in her keynote address, commended Farmer Governor Bago’s commitment towards improving the practical skills and knowledge of children, describing it as unequalled.

In the spirit of catching them young and to engender innovation as well as creativity, Dr. Asabe Muhammad revealed that the State Government would roll out skills acquisition and self empowerment programmes for children.

Guest speaker at the event and a renowned Educationist, Hajiya Dije Bala, described the decision of the State Government to introduce skills acquisition in Schools as remarkable, adding that it will go a long way in empowering the children, making them self-reliant.

The event also featured match pass by Students from public and private schools, presentation of cash gifts to Students who were outstanding in various Competitions held Nationwide, and cultural displays among others.
