FARMER GOVERNOR UMARU BAGO INAUGURATES A 10KM OKARKI JUNCTION TO IMIRINGI ROAD IN BAYELSA STATE
Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has inaugurated sections 2 and 3 Okarki junction to Imiringi 10 km road in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
The event was part of activities organized by the State government ahead of the 2nd term in office inauguration of the Bayelsa State Governor, Sen. Douye Diri.
Farmer Governor Umaru Bago described his Bayelsa State counterpart as a distinguished Governor who has shown capacity by bringing development to his people regardless of the economic challenges.
He observed that the people of Bayelsa State also love the Governor and that his re-election victory speaks volumes of his attachment to his people.
The Farmer Governor expressed optimism that Governor Diri will sustain his developmental strides for the people of Bayelsa State.
He said as a first-term Governor, he will continue to emulate the perseverance and doggedness in leadership of Governor Diri.
The Farmer Governor used the opportunity to again sympathize with the entire South South people on the shocking death of Herbert Wigwe, his wife and Son.
He welcomed the idea of Governor Diri, to name the road after the deceased, and promised to do the same in Niger State pointing out that the late Wigwe was his friend, senior colleague in the banking industry and a patriotic citizen who desired that Nigeria develop.
Earlier Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State in his remarks, appreciated Farmer Governor Umaru Bago who he said is a passionate leader full of vigour and innovations.
He said no doubt the constructed road would ease the movement of goods and services, boost socio-economic activities and engender development in the State Capital.
The Bayelsa Governor announced that the road would be named after the late Herbert Wigwe for his immense contribution to the growth and development of Bayelsa State.
He said the deceased was his very close ally who was always concerned about the development of the state adding that before his sudden death, they were already discussing how to ensure 24-hour power supply to Bayelsa State.
Also, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Moses Teibowei
said the road construction was borne out of the necessity to have an outer Ring Road to open up the State Capital and to meet the road needs of the growing populace of Bayelsa State.
The Commissioner explained that the contract which was initially awarded in 2013 by the then Governor Henry Seriake Dickson, was however re-awarded by Governor Diri to a different company in 2021.
Sections 2 and 3 are one of the single carriageways out of the dual carriageway of 21.911km awarded at a total cost of over N36.1 billion.
The road would serve as a bypass to commuters going through Igbogene, to places like Ogbia, Nembe, and Brass local government areas of Bayelsa State.
Some eminent personalities at the event were the Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP and former Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa and the Former Senate President, 2 terms Governor of Kwara and a PDP stalwart, Sen. Bukola Saraki among others.
