Niger State Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago has performed the groundbreaking of 118 km road comprising of 3 road projects in Kontagora as part of his Urban Renewal Policy.
The road projects include the reconstruction of the 90km Kontagora-Rijau road, the construction of the 19.4 km Kontagora Western bypass Ring-Road and the 8.7 km Kontagora Eastern bypass Ring-Roads.
The Kontagora-Rijau road reconstruction is to be carried out by Triacta Nigeria Ltd while the Western and Eastern bypass Ring-Roads are to be constructed by Brosini Nigeria Ltd.
Performing the groundbreaking ceremony, Farmer Governor Umaru Bago disclosed that his Government has so far embarked on the construction of 1,000km of road projects across the State out of which 400km are Federal roads.
The Farmer Governor said his administration is aware of the rapid development, road constructions engenders in the society and is also concerned about the safety of road users hence, will embark on road projects to ameliorate the sufferings of citizens plying the roads.
He said the reconstruction of the Kontagora-Rijau road has been approved by the Federal road as it is a trunk ‘A’ road adding that the Federal government has also given a nod to the State for the reconstruction of the 41km dualization of the Kakkaki-Minna road and 91km Rofia-Borgu roads which are all Federal roads.
Farmer Governor Umaru Bago described Kontagora local Government Area as central in Niger North Senatorial District and a centre of Commerce pointing out that good road infrastructure will improve the movement of goods to other places.
He disclosed that the Contractors for the projects were carefully selected based on their track records and they would be put on their toes to deliver standard projects.
Senator Representing Niger North and former Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello as well as the Speaker Niger State House of Assembly, AbdulMalik Sarkin Daji in their separate remarks described Farmer Governor Bago’s efforts as highly remarkable expressing confidence that the road projects will open up Kontagora town for development.
The Commissioner for Works, Suleiman Umar disclosed that the road project forms part of Farmer Governor Umaru Bago’s plans to make Niger State one of the most economically viable State in Nigeria and by extension, reduce hardship faced by commuters.
Emir of Kontagora, Muhammad Barau Mu’azu II in his expression of gratitude to the Governor, said the road projects will facilitate growth and development within the local governments under Kontagora Emirate and improve supply Chain as well as domestic needs.
He commended the Governor for fulfilling his campaign promises while also reiterating the immense benefit the Emirate stand to gain from the present administration.
