NIGER STATE BOARD OF INTERNAL REVENUE ORGANISES A TWO-DAY RETREAT FOR COMMISSIONERS-DESIGNATE, MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY, SPECIAL ADVISERS, HEADS OF MDAS, AND 25 LGA CHAIRMEN.
The Niger State Board of Internal Revenue Service is organizing a two-day retreat focusing on Revenue Harmonization within the State.
The two-day event, which is taking place at Zuma Rock Resort In Niger State, has in attendance all key stakeholders, including the 25 Local Government Chairmen, Head of MDAs, and members of the State House of Assembly in revenue generation.
The primary objective of the retreat is to facilitate the successful implementation of the 2020 harmonized revenue law endorsed by the former governor of Niger State. The underlying purpose of this harmonized revenue law is to foster strong collaboration between the state’s Internal Revenue Service and the local government councils. This collaboration aimed to achieve several significant benefits:
Expanded Tax Base: By working together, the state and local governments intend to broaden the tax net, ensuring that a significant portion of eligible tax DXDayers contributes to revenue generation.
Enhanced Revenue Generation: The cooperation between the two tiers of government will lead to improved revenue generation, benefiting both entities financially and supporting various public services and projects.
Leakage Prevention: One of the key advantages of the harmonized revenue law is its ability to plug revenue leakage, effectively preventing instances where revenue is lost due to inefficiencies or unauthorized practices.
Mitigation of Multiple Taxation: The law also seeks to address the issue of multiple taxation, ensuring that individuals and businesses are not burdened with redundant tax obligations.
Elimination of Unscrupulous Practices. Eliminating “quacks” in revenue generation activities will help create a more transparent and accountable system, instilling greater taxpayer confidence.
Conducive Business Environment. Through voluntary tax compliance, the harmonized revenue law aims to foster a favorable environment for business operators. This environment encourages businesses to operate legitimately, contributing their fair share to the state’s revenue.
The retreat, which focuses on the harmonized revenue law, also underscores the commitment of Niger State to efficient governance, fair taxation, and economic growth through better revenue management.
