Niger State Governor, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago has disclosed that the State can generate Billions of Naira annually from trucks passing through Bida, as tolling system would soon be re-introduced in Nigeria.
Farmer Governor Umaru Bago disclosed this during the flagging-off of the Bida township road dualization project.
The farmer Governor said discussions are on with all the Governors, on the re-introduction of tolling system and transferring of road maintenance to State governments.
He observed that an average of 3 million trucks pass through Bida every Month and with tollgates especially at the Bida Ring Road and the creation of trailer parks, each truck can be charged for revenue generation in his bid to create wealth.
The farmer Governor said there would be concession of some of the tollgates to Private individuals to manage in line with his transparency and accountability explaining that the concession would also generate job opportunities to many people, especially the youth.
He also reiterated his agricultural and Urban Renewal policies and the need for maximum support by all.
Bida Council Chairman, Alh. Bala Shaba, who appreciated the Governor for his infrastructural initiative, described it as unprecedented.
Estu Nupe and Chairman, Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alh. Yahaya Abubakar also commended the farmer Governor for all his developmental strides across the State and prayed for his success.
Consultant handling the site, Engr Aliyu Abdulrauf said the firm will ensure proper check on the project to ensure a standard work

In a related development the farmer Governor was at Katcha for the groundbreaking of the 5 km township road where he assured the State Government will collaborate with fish farmers to provide them with new fishing tools to enhance their trade.
He equally revealed that protective life jackets would be given to mitigate the impact of boat mishaps
Earlier, the Chairman of Katcha Local Government Council, Alh. Abdullahi Saku commended Governor Umaru Bago for having the people of the grassroots at heart in terms of infrastructural development.
The consultant of the project explained that he will ensure that the contractors adhere to specifications for quality assurance.
In their separate remarks, the various contractors handling the Bida and Katcha road projects, promised to deliver quality jobs as well as provide Corporate Social Responsibilities in various communities.
